The Good
Morning Milton Project is concerned both with the preventative
and social aspect of health and well being. As well as being
a year round alert service, our members benefit from our access
to a variety of safety resources.
Here are
some examples of community safety advice and equipment which
members have benefitted from :
- Lifeline
Tubes to allow the Emergency Services quick, easy access
to their medical information, in the home,
- A demonstration
on Bogus Callers and Home Safety Equipment pack given by
Strathclyde Police and national utility companies,
- free
electric blanket testing done by the Trading Standards Authority,
with faulty blankets replaced free of charge,
- A visit
to the Safety Centre which has different stage sets showing
potential hazards in the home and in the wider community.
- Personal
attack alarm so members can feel safer when they are alone.
- Membership
cards with their emergency contact details ensuring that
we or their family will know if and accident has happened
while out and about.
We
make sure our members don't miss out on anything!
The telephone can be a lifeline for many people and to some
we are literally their main contact with the outside world.
By offering a 'friend on the phone' we aim to reduced the
isolation sometimes felt by people. You do not need to be
living alone to feel lonley or enjoy the benefits of our service.
Mr Shaw was one of the first people to use the service:
"It makes a good difference because I look forward to
a call in the morning, because I might not get a call all
day. I might only get one - and that's from you. I feel like
it's somebody that's looking out for me."
"I've
learnt about places I could go for things to do and where
to go for help!"
"My
daughter phones me regularly, but she gets peace of mind knowing
she'll be contacted if there is anything wrong."
