Telephone Befrienders are highly trained. They need to be. We do not know what situation we will meet when we make a Good Morning call — from a member losing a loved one or being told that their cancer has returned, to someone who has thoughts of suicide. Telephone Befrienders are trained to be able to support them.

We go beyond effective communication skills to train our Befrienders in mental health awareness e.g. Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training, and Scotland’s Mental Health First Aid. Nicky Thomson is an NHS Health Scotland approved SMHFA trainer.
