Personal Safety
The Bogus Caller Alert Service provides early warning of fraudsters and thieves operating in the area. Strathclyde Police provide descriptions of the bogus caller(s) and any fake identity being used. We forward this to our members and the local housing associations. Care is taken not to alarm anyone and good news stories are also passed on.
Cold Alarms monitor the temperature in the room, warning when it drops below 7°C.
Message in a Bottle gives the emergency services useful information on medical conditions and emergency contacts when the householder is confused or unconscious.
Safe Cans look like the real thing and can keep valuables hidden from burglars.
Memo Minders remind clients not to open the door unless the visitor is known to them.
Personal Attack Alarms are easily carried in a pocket.
Membership Cards hold the name and telephone number of nominated contacts, in addition to the Project, who can be called should a member be found unwell or in need of assistance; e.g. after a fall in the street.
In winter the Project works closely with Strathclyde Fire and Rescue to promote key SAFE messages. In November, the project distributes Fire Safety in the Winter leaflets (electric blanket, chimney fire, portable heater hazards etc. and keeping safe with fireworks). In December we send out the SFR safety message 12 Days of Fire Safe Christmas (candles, fairy lights, Christmas trees). Referrals are made for Home Fire Safety visits.
